Online@SBU Degrees

Complete a degree with the flexibility of online instruction. Online degree programs through SBU make achieving your educational goals more attainable than ever. You can pursue fully online degrees, as well as programs incorporating some classroom time in a hybrid online format.

Degrees You Can Complete Fully Online

Complete online degree courses whenever is convenient in your schedule. Course are “asynchronous,” meaning you do not have to attend class sessions electronically at specific times. All work is completed within the Blackboard Learn content management system with periodic deadlines for assignments to help keep you on track for completion.

Degrees You Can Complete Through Hybrid Course Delivery

Hybrid courses include mostly online coursework but with a limited amount of in-person attendance required. Some also may require synchronous online class attendance through a video conferencing software such as Zoom. Click on a degree page or contact an SBU admissions counselors for more details on each individual degree.

Online Degree FAQ

Online courses are delivered through Blackboard Learn®. Assignments, lessons, coursework, discussion forums, exams and more are delivered through the Blackboard system.

Some important technical requirements include:

  • Reliable internet: You will need a reliable Internet connection of 1.5 Mbps or higher to do coursework.
  • Microsoft Office: You will need Microsoft Office 2003 or newer software.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader: You will need Adobe Reader or another reading program in order to view PDF documents.

Technical requirements

Tuition varies by degree program. See each degree’s program page for more information. 

Federal grants and loans may be available for Online Learning or Online Independent Study through the SBU Office of Financial Aid. You must meet certain criteria and must be a degree-seeking student accepted and enrolled in a SBU program leading to an associate's, bachelor's, graduate or professional degree to be potentially eligible for federal financial aid. Students taking regular classroom courses along with some online study fit the criteria of degree-seeking students through SBU.

You will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Required textbooks are available from the SBU Campus Store. You may purchase textbooks from any source, but be sure you acquire the specified edition of the book required for the course.
