Add a second degree in Integration of Science and Christian Faith to your primary major
The Darrell R. Strait Center for the Integration of Science and Christian Faith is an academic center housed within the SBU College of Arts and Sciences and named in memory of Dr. Darrell R. Strait, a long-time employee of the University, senior professor of chemistry and former Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.
Mission statement
The Darrell R. Strait Center for the Integration of Science and Christian Faith (CISCF) pursues excellence and seeks to honor God by offering an interdisciplinary program of study in the integration of science and Christian faith that incorporates appropriate scientific and Biblical principles, grounded in the Old and New Testaments, and consistent with the Christian faith, Christian worldview, Biblical values and Baptist heritage of the University.
Academic programs
The Strait Center is home to an interdisciplinary program (major and minor programs) for students choosing to pursue a Christian education that focuses on the integration of science and Christianity, along with many other disciplines. You will study the history and philosophy of science, Biblical hermeneutics and the integration of science and Christianity in a variety of courses.
By participating in these Christian education programs of study, you will be equipped for personal evangelism and ministry in your chosen profession by facilitating your understanding of the different belief systems of the people you encounter. While you may choose to pursue a major in Integration of Science and Christian faith, it is a secondary major and must be combined with a primary major in any other degree program offered at SBU.
If you major in any degree program within the division of natural sciences, you will have required science, mathematics, and Christian courses from the Strait Center. For example, all biology majors are required to take the Biology Through the Eyes of Faith course.

About Dr. Strait
Dr. Strait was a long-time employee of the University, senior professor of chemistry and former Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. He was also a two-time winner of the SBU Life Beautiful Award (in recognition of his Christ-like character), winner of the Missouri Governor's Excellence in Teaching Award and a true model to his peers of what it means to be a Christian working in academics in the science arena.
In addition to his stellar service to the University, Dr. Strait was active in the life of the Bolivar community and in the life of First Baptist Church of Bolivar, endearing himself to all who knew him.
